British Rail Class 56 023 In Trainload Coal Livery

Introducing our first locomotive as well as our first adventure working with aluminium, the Class 56 / joins the Rail Tags Fleet. More specifically Electroputere LDE3500 built Class 56 023.

Class 56 023 was imported from Craiova, Romania to Harwich on the 1st of April 1977. Upon arrival Class 56 units 001-030 suffered from poor build quality with substandard welding, electrical issues and inadequate bogey design being reported. Subsequently an extensive rebuilt programme took place at BREL Doncaster Works to bring them up to par with their British built counterparts which had impressed with their high performance.

After the rebuild had taken place Class 56 023 would serve with the Trainload Freight Coal Sector of British Rail before being withdrawn and placed into storage at Toton TMD before eventually being sent to Booths Rotherham for scrap which took place in 2004. You now have the opportunity to own a piece of one of British Rail's most loved locomotives among enthusiasts and a unique piece of Type 5 loco history being an imported example of the Class 56.
